Luxury

Nearly 130 years ago, the luxurious Hotel del Coronado opened its doors to welcome guests to its expansive beach and finely appointed accommodations just outside of San Diego. Today, guests of all ages feel just as welcome at The Del as they did back in 1888.

Let’s start in the lobby, where your family can take a ride in the original, ornate Otis No. 61 elevator, complete with an elevator operator who opens and closes the gates and will ease you to the floor where you’ll find your accommodations, ranging from traditional rooms to suites, or for a bit more privacy, opt for a guestroom, villa or cottage in the adjacent Beach Village. Your four-legged family members — dogs and cats — are also welcome at The Del.

If you can escape all the comforts of your room, there’s plenty to keep you occupied at The Del. Loads of fun await in the splash-filled pool and on The Del’s expansive beach, complete with chairs, umbrellas and cabanas on and under which to laze the days away, or rest after a game of beach frisbee or football or playing in the waves. Channel your inner Ariel through a mermaid class, rent bikes and pedal along the boardwalk, or roast s’mores over a beach bonfire after the sun sets.

When parents are away, kids will play, especially with DelVentures for Kids. Upon check-in, kids ages 4 through 12 receive an adventure pack complete with treasure map and compass. As your family wanders The Del to get the feel of the resort, your kids can uncover hidden clues that will lead them to treasure at the end of a scavenger hunt. Three-hour evening adventures are offered daily — enough time for parents to enjoy a nice dinner, sans kids — and additional one-hour activities are offered on weekends.

Family dining at Hotel del Coronado

Speaking of dining, breakfast is served daily at the casual Sheerwater restaurant, or bring your own munchies and stock your in-room refrigerator. The Sun Deck and Splash Bar & Deli are perfect for quick, casual lunches and snacks, and for dinner, order up a pizza with all the toppings from ENO. Don’t forget dessert! Order a scoop — or three — from the 1950s-style MooTime Creamery.

However you and your family spend your time at The Del, one thing is for certain — your memories will last a lifetime.
