Tuolumne County, California, is an ideal place for family travelers to witness nature’s spring awakening.
When winter snow melts in the Sierra Nevada, waterfalls burst throughout Tuolumne County, Embark with your family to these waterfalls or refer to this map to find your own:
- Preston Falls and Carlon Falls, along Highway 120 and in Yosemite
- Wapama Falls and Rancheria Falls, at Hetch Hetchy Reservoir
- Tuolumne Falls & White Cascade, at Tioga Pass and a hike from Glen Aulin Trail
- Blue Canyon Falls, visible on the right side of Highway 108
Just in time to catch all the sights, two new hotels in the area open this summer: Firefall Ranch, joining Rush Creek Lodge and Spa and Evergreen Lodge sister properties; and Chicken Ranch Casino Resort in Jamestown. Firefall Ranch sits on 300 acres of meadowland, along Yosemite’s Highway 120 West Corridor and offers 55 standalone cottages and villas, while Chicken Ranch Casino Resort will be the largest hotel in the county with 175 rooms, 22 suites, a casino and more.
Tuolumne County has a long wildflower season. Great spots to take in the beauty include Lake Don Pedro, Blue Oaks Shoreline Trail, Red Hills Recreation Management Area, West Side Trail, Twain Harte and Tuolumne Meadows, among others.
Railtown 1897 State Historic Park offers weekend excursion train rides through October, covering 6 miles in 45 minutes on the Sierra Railway.
