Get a little sun in Scottsdale, Arizona, this spring and bring the kids — this destination, often associated with golf and spas, offers plenty for families.
Stay
The Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain Resort & Spa recently unveiled a series of villas, eight private retreats with full access to the resort’s many luxury amenities. The spacious villas are perfect for families traveling as a group. Each sits on at least an acre of land and the amenities range from villa to villa, but include luxuries like private pools and home theaters.
Guests staying in villas can book the property’s Sanctuary Elevated bundle, which gives guests staying at least two nights in a villa their choice of two of three activities: a private guided hike on the Camelback Mountain Echo or Cholla trail for up to eight guests; a private aerial yoga class for up to six guests; or a private yoga nidra class for up to eight guests. The bundle also includes a $500 resort credit that can be used for spa treatments, food or beverages. Villa guests also enjoy unlimited access to the tennis courts and pickle ball courts.

Active family? Get out and explore Scottsdale’s beautiful nature. Head out on Lower Salt River with a kayak for views of both the mountain ranges and the native wildlife. Hike at McDowell Sonoran Preserve, the fourth-largest urban preserve in the world. Explore the desert on your own ATV with tours from Stellar Adventures.
Scottsdale becomes a hub for all things art when one of the nation’s top arts festivals premieres in March. This year, the Scottsdale Arts Festival celebrated its 50th anniversary and displayed 175 jury-selected artists. Admire and shop for ceramics, jewelry, paintings, sculptures and all manner of art mediums. Music and festival food are also on the menu.
And, if you can’t make it to Scottsdale until April, try to time your visit with the Phoenix Pride Festival & Parade, April 4–5. There’ll be a huge array of entertainers, more than 150 across six stages, and more than 300 exhibitors offering food, shopping and more. A special kids space will be set up at the festival.
