With everything 2020 threw at us, treat yourself and the family to a winter getaway to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Pack warm-weather clothes and head to the Adirondack Mountains in New York.

The Adirondack Mountains offer winter fun, fresh air and wide-open spaces — perfect for social distancing.

At Whiteface Mountain, families can enjoy a fun-filled day skiing and snowboarding. If you are looking for more outdoor activities, there are plenty to choose from, including hiking in Hamilton County at Five Fire Tower trail. Other activities include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding, snowmobiling, ice fishing and more.

Head to the Lake Placid Olympic Sites to experience the thrill of being an Olympic bobsledder. The new Cliffside Mountain Coaster at Mt. Van Hoevenberg shows guests what it was like to bobsled down the mountain during the 1980 Winter Games. The coaster is the longest year-round mountain coaster in the United States. Other activities include the new Sky Flyer Zipline at Lake Placid Olympic Jumping Complex and the new SkyRide Experience, an eight-person gondola escorting guests from the Olympic Jumping Complex’s base lodge to the top of the ski jump.

Mirror Lake is another popular destination for winter activities to enjoy on the ice. Go ice skating, cross-country skiing, on toboggan rides and skating on Olympic Oval, just like an Olympian.

Next, head to the Wild Center in Tupper Lake, where kids and adults can enjoy a winter playground filled with snow and fun. Embark on the Winter Wild Walk, learn to ice fish, snowshoe and many other outdoor winter programs and activities.
