Destinations / North America

Maurice River Bluffs Preserve sits on 500 acres of land in Millville, New Jersey; its name coming from the rounded cliffs that overlook the 35.4-mile Maurice River in southern New Jersey. The preserve offers nature-based activities for the whole family.

There are about six miles of hiking trails at Maurice River Bluffs Preserve. Trails are well-marked and easy to combine for experiencing more of the land. The trails feature hilly terrain, not typically seen in southern New Jersey. The preserve offers a six-mile mountain biking trail, designed using International Mountain Biking Association standards.

The preserve is a stopover location for migrating birds including songbirds, waterfowl, ospreys and bald eagles, offering prime wildlife-viewing opportunities. There is a bird blind along the river bank, ideal for watching birds without being seen. Animal activity varies by season, so be sure to check the website for the best months to glimpse various wildlife.

There are picnic tables and benches throughout the preserve to enjoy a snack or to take a break from your hike or biking. Other points of interest along the trails include an artesian well, bridges, a dock and historical sites, including the remnants of a 1700s-stone farmhouse.

The preserve is open year-round, during daylight hours. There is no fee for admittance or to park. There is one main parking lot, with access to the trailhead of the preserve’s Blue Trail.
