It’s no secret family travel can cause anxiety, especially when traveling with little ones, but what about their anxiety? They may not have our responsibilities, but they certainly have fears and worries. Follow these five helpful tips so the next vacation you take as a family will be one they will remember for all the right reasons.
Make sure they are familiar with the trip plans. Children often have a fear of the unknown. When they know what to expect, they can more easily relax and enjoy the ride.
Schedule plenty of cushion time into your trip. Children often do things on their own schedule and tight itineraries don’t allow for time o decompress or handle unexpected issues that might arise. Make sure you’ve got time to absorb a bathroom emergency or a mini-meltdown so you don’t miss a flight.
Bring along some comforts from home. New surroundings and situations can lead to anxiety, so make sure your little one has something familiar that puts them at ease. Carrying a few extra items like a favorite book or stuffed animal can go a long way when it comes to keeping children relaxed.
Arm them with their own COVID safety kit. Just like adults, kids worry about getting COVID. Review safety tips and arm them with their own travel kit filled with hand sanitizer and masks so they can feel safe.
