Hit the Beach

Most people only know about the caldera side of the island — sheer cliffs overlooking a volcanic crater in the sea dotted with sugar cube villages, offering the most incredible sunsets in the world. But if you venture away from the caldera, you encounter swimmable beaches, such as Perissa Beach on the eastern shore, featuring unique black sand warmed by the underwater volcanoes that formed the island.

Get a Better Deal in the Shoulder Season

Traveling with family can be costly, especially to a popular destination like Santorini, one of the pricier Greek Islands. June, July and August are the height of the tourist seasons, but come with heavy crowds, high prices and hot temperatures. If you plan your visit during the shoulder season in May, September and October, you will have just as much fun with fewer tourists, cooler weather and lower rates.
