Multigenerational

The Los Angeles food scene is legendary, and for good reason. Top chefs from around the world flock to this Southern California city to work at and open some of the most notable restaurants in the world, making the L.A. food scene one of the most creative and innovative ones in the world.

For family travelers heading to this vast city, however, there are a few quintessential spots that are undeniably L.A. and not to be missed by a true food afficionado. Check out our list of L.A.’s must-visit restaurants for a true Angeleno food experience.

El Cholo

Billed as L.A.’s first Mexican restaurant, this infamous eatery has locations around town. The restaurant is most famous for its original location on Western Avenue, where signature dishes like iconic green corn tamales were first introduced. Since opening in 1923, the restaurant has not only been a witness to the city’s history, but has also become a part of it.

Pink’s

When you’re hungry for a quick bite, head to this iconic Hollywood hot dog stand on the corner of Melrose and La Brea. Pink’s has been a favorite among locals and tourists alike since it opened in 1939. Not only can you grab a bite to eat morning or night (they’re open from 9:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. weekdays and until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday), but you are also likely to spot a celebrity in line with you.

Versailles Comida Cubano

For Cuban food, you can’t go wrong at Versailles. With three locations to choose from around town, you have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the traditional Cuban dishes, like fried yucca, plantain patties and the signature Pollo Versailles, a delectable roast chicken marinated in delicious garlic sauce.

Grand Central Market

This entry isn’t exactly a single eatery — it’s a collection of more than three dozen different vendors in the heart of downtown L.A. Choose from incredible food stalls selling everything from PB & J sandwiches to oysters and everything in between, including some of the best tacos, pupusas, ramen and donuts in town.

Philippe The Original

Also known as Phillipe’s, this is one of L.A.’s oldest restaurants, dating back to 1908. This famous eatery claims to have invented the French Dip sandwich, the dish they are most famous for. Located downtown on Alameda Street, it’s conveniently located near many iconic sites like Olvera Street and Chinatown.

The Creepy Appeal of Dark Tourism

While the term dark tourism applies more widely to places associated with tragedies, death and the grimmer moments in history, at its heart is a fascination with the bizarre, mysterious and spooky — qualities certain to attract older kids and teens. While sites of mass tragedy may not be suitable, you can enliven family travel with stops at some creepy places.

Interior Upgrades Begin Rolling Out Across United Fleet

United Airlines is in the midst of a major initiative to modernize its fleet over the next several years. After first announcing the plan in 2021, planes fitted with United’s signature interior are finally beginning to appear across the airline’s narrowbody fleet of Boeing and Airbus planes. United flyers are sure to notice these enhancements from the moment they step on board: Each new or updated plane sports remodeled seats, seatback entertainment screens for everyone, Bluetooth connectivity and more, all adding up to a better experience on every journey.
