From theme park additions to new attraction openings, California invites family travelers to experience its many exciting openings and expansions in 2023.

 

SUPER NINTENDO WORLD

The highly anticipated SUPER NINTENDO WORLD will open at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2023, making it the first SUPER NINTENDO WORLD in the country. The immersive space transports guests to the world of Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach, with vibrant colors and a groundbreaking ride.

 

SeaWorld San Diego

SeaWorld San Diego plans to open its newest rollercoaster, Arctic Rescue, in spring 2023. Slated to be the longest and fastest straddle coaster on the West Coast, this family-friendly, multilaunch ride brings guests on a snowmobile, before launching them 40 mph on a snowy adventure.

 

Agua Caliente Cultural Plaza

The Agua Caliente Cultural Plaza will grace downtown Palm Springs, featuring Agua Caliente Cultural Museum, an outdoor Oasis Trail and Spa at Séc-he. The museum highlights the history, culture and modern times of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians.

 

Disney 100 Years of Wonder

Set to be the largest cross-company global celebration in the history of The Walt Disney Co. at Disneyland Resort, Disney 100 Years of Wonder begins Jan. 27. The celebration includes limited-time offerings, with highlights including two all-new nighttime spectaculars; the opening of the reimagined Mickey’s Toontown; and the return of the “Magic Happens” parade at Disneyland Park.

 

Museum of Illusions

Museum of Illusions comes to San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter near the end of 2023. The 10,000-square-foot museum includes 3-D holograms, optical illusions, interactive rooms and brain-puzzling exhibits.

Music Jams Await the Whole Family in Cajun Country, Louisiana

It’s always time for music in Louisiana’s Cajun Country and, in May, the place to be for family travelers is St. Landry’s Parish. Celebrate Mothers’ Day in Opelousas at Tucka James Music Fest, May 10–11, where 16 artists perform over two days. Friday is Country Takeover and Saturday stars the King of Swing, Tucka James.

United Continues Its Global Expansion

United Airlines keeps soaring to new heights, recently announcing another expansion of its leading global route network. The airline added new non-stop flights between Newark (EWR) and Marrakesh (RAK), Morocco; Tokyo (NRT) and Cebu (CEB), Philippines; and Houston (IAH) and Medellin (MDE), Colombia. That’s not all: United also plans to increase flights to popular worldwide destinations including Hong Kong (HKG); Seoul (INC), South Korea; and Porto (OPO), Portugal. Following the recent agreement to increase flights between the U.S. and Chinese governments, the airline now adds four weekly flights from Los Angeles (LAX) to Shanghai (PVG).
