COMO Maalifushi will welcome Sharks4Kids to the Maldives Oct. 20–November for Guardians of the Reef, an interactive marine education program led by Jillian Morris, marine biologist and founder, Sharks4Kids; and Emmy award-winning cinematographer Duncan Brake. Designed for children and their families, the program turns Thaa Atoll into a living classroom, teaching young ocean explorers to identify shark species, snorkel the house reef alongside marine biologists and take part in hands-on conservation activities.
The seven-day program begins on land, with interactive talks, shark-themed activities and a virtual-reality shark dive, before heading into the water for guided reef explorations. Older children and parents can join a night snorkel, and the Ocean Through the Lens session introduces underwater photography and filmmaking.

Beyond the program, the island offers plenty of ways for children and teenagers to continue their adventures both on and beneath the water.
For families with teenagers, COMO Cocoa Island offers a more independent take with Ocean Culture Life, Oct. 19–31, bringing ocean storytelling, photography, film and conservation to the island with Matt Porteous, founder, Ocean Culture Life, and Tamsin Raine, CEO. On Oct. 20 and 25, complimentary Youth Guardian Sessions, created specifically for children and teenagers, uses hands-on activities to introduce ocean storytelling and environmental awareness.
COMO Cocoa Island’s 33 overwater suites and villas were inspired by the curved form of traditional Maldivian dhoni fishing boats. Larger two- and three-bedroom villas provide space for older children to enjoy a little more independence.
COMO Point Yamu, in Phang Nga Bay, introduced a collection of family experiences centered around art, community and exploration, beginning with an introduction to Phuket’s wildlife at the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project, dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating endangered gibbons. Families can also spend time at an ethical elephant sanctuary and take an art-focused tour of Old Phuket Town.
