We don’t want to rush fall, especially since it just started, but we want to put Independence Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest on the family traveler’s radar. Starting Friday, Nov. 27, Delaware River Winterfest will turn Philadelphia’s waterfront destination into a winter wonderland. Family travelers can expect ice skating, warm cabins, firepits, festive food and drink options, and other holiday fun.
For more than three decades, Independence Blue Cross RiverRink has been a highlight of Philadelphia’s winter offerings. Sunday, Nov. 29, will feature the annual Holiday Tree Lighting powered by PECO, a holiday display lighting up the waterfront’s towering holiday tree and officially ringing in the holiday season. The event will also feature live entertainment, special guests and more!
Admission to Winterfest is free, but the amenities and experiences are pay-as-you-go, so visitors can pick and choose. Favorites include outdoor fire pits, private warming cabins, the Ferris Wheel, indoor arcade, Rinkside Lounge and The Lodge at Winterfest. At the lodge, guests can warm up with hot chocolate, festive cocktails, local brews and seasonal treats.
Independence Blue Cross members can get free skate admission for themselves, as well as three guests, by showing their IBX member ID online or in person. Military personnel and first responders can also receive free skate admission for themselves and three guests when presenting a valid ID and purchasing tickets in person.
