Boston has a lot to offer family travelers during summer, especially when those families are traveling with multiple generations. There is so much to see and do, everyone will go home with incredible memories of their time together.
The city has 23 different neighborhoods to explore, but many of the top sites are within walking distance of each other, making it easy for a group to get around. The city is home to so much American history, it may be hard to know where to start, but a walk along the Freedom Trail, a 2.5-mile walking trail weaving through a historical section of the city, is a great way to see some of the best sites. You’ll get to see Paul Revere’s house, Boston Common and the Massachusetts State House.
One can’t-miss stop is Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park. Made up of 34 islands and peninsulas within the harbor, you can spend the day enjoying a picnic lunch and exploring the islands just a short ferry ride from downtown Boston.
But if the family’s different generations have different interests, you can still enjoy the city together with a divide-and-conquer approach. History buffs can head to Boston Harbor, site of the historic Boston Tea Party where you can visit the museum and throw some tea in the harbor, while family sports enthusiasts can head to Fenway Park to see the home of the Boston Red Sox. Or, split up by taking little ones to Boston Children’s Museum, while the family’s art buffs will want to head to Museum of Fine Arts. Round out the trip by exploring Faneuil Hall together as a family, where you can all pick up exciting finds from local vendors and grab bites to eat from many food stalls.
