Spring is here and with it comes Mother Nature at her finest. With flowers and trees blooming with new life, there are plenty of festivals to mark the season, but this year marks a special anniversary for one particular festival in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley.

The Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival is celebrating 100 years, making 2024 the perfect time for family travel to Winchester, Virginia. Beginning April 26, the festival features more than 40 events that take over the entire town for 10 days of fun.

The region is known for its many apple orchards that create a beautiful landscape of white and pink each spring, but the festival also showcases the area’s fascinating history, strong community and Virginia’s warm hospitality.

The theme for this year’s festival is Locally Grown, Globally Shared, which pays tribute to the family farms and orchards that founded the area and have been growing delicious apples for generations. The festivities will include great family-friendly activities like carnival rides and midway games, apple farm tours, live music, parades, and plenty of great food and sweet treats featuring local flavors and seasonal ingredients. There will be wine tastings, sporting events, and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to shop for souvenirs or locally made crafts. The fireworks show on May 3 and the square dance on May 4 will help round out the fun, and the 100th birthday party will give everyone a chance to try some delicious Shenandoah Valley apple pie.

The 10-day event is not only a chance for the family to enjoy a good old-fashioned festival and the delicious apples of the Shenandoah Valley, but also the warmth and hospitality of Winchester will show you just how endearing Virginia really is.
