With so many families, students and teachers still wondering what “back to school” will look like this year, many scramble to find interactive, educational and fun ways to keep kids entertained. Look ahead for some late-summer, early-fall fun with the family in a destination primed and ready for all ages: Savannah, Georgia.
Take your work to go and plan a family trip to the beloved city, knowing there will be some informative fun when you get there. Head to the newly opened Plant Riverside District for some shopping, dining, open-air entertainment, nightly events and an Ultimate Dinosaur Adventure.
The Plant Riverside District invites guests to Generator Hall for an immersive geology experience
. Travel to a land before time while the kids learn all about the prehistoric era and natural science with the help of Dusty the Dino Ranger. Junior Explorers, ages 6–12, enjoy fun games and activities, including crafts, trivia, music, a Dino dig, fossil drop and a graduation gameshow.

Watch as the kids discover hidden dinosaurs throughout Generator Hall of Plant Riverside District with the handy Passport of Discovery. They will complete challenges, absorb some knowledge and collect stamps from their “travels” along the way. The Passport is a great keepsake for the kids, and helpful way to track all they’ve learned from their journey back in time.
Your future paleontologists will learn all about excavation tools, how geodes are formed over millions of years and even create their own in minutes with an expert-led, small-scale experience.
Reservations can be made at the front desk, or over the phone (912 373 9100) for $40 per child. Up to 20 children can join the adventure and each explorer will wear a dino mask for safety, and follow along adventure ropes to ensure social distancing measures.
When the kids are finished with their adventure, they can tell you (and show you) all they’ve learned, while you spend some family time perusing the District’s many shops and restaurants. Not a bad way to spend the day in Savannah.
