Louisville is known for many things, like bourbon and the Kentucky Derby. Not necessarily reasons that top the list for family-friendly entertainment, right? Not to worry — Louisville is actually an underrated city for family travelers, with tons of great ways to entertain the kids.
This Kentucky city offers some pretty interesting ways to show the family a good time, like underground zip lining. Head to Louisville Mega Cavern to discover the cavern home to the world’s only fully underground zip line. In addition to this aerial experience, you can also explore the cavern by tram and on foot, but the zip line adventure (for anyone aged 7 and older) includes a glow-in-the-dark twist and is accompanied by music, making it a unique way to spend your time in Louisville.
If the kids are baseball fans, they’ll love Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory, where they can learn the history of the famous baseball bat, take a tour of the factory and get their very own souvenir mini bat as a parting gift. Plus, there’s the world’s largest baseball bat, a 120-foot tall Louisville Slugger that makes for some great family photo opps outside the museum.
Once warmer weather hits (in this year’s case, not until May 9), you’ll want to take kids to Kentucky Kingdom, the city’s theme park/water park. The park features more than 70 rides and attractions and is home to King Louie’s Playground, where you’ll find the region’s largest collection of children’s rides.
In addition to these activities, the city is home to plenty of shopping, parks, restaurants and more, so you’ll be able to enjoy exploring Louisville while making sure the kids have a great time.
