There is nothing better than seeing the stunning foliage during fall family travel. Central Pennsylvania is the perfect destination for fall foliage, as it offers beautiful rural landscapes filled with trees, lakes, streams and stunning mountains that can be explored by train.
Tucked away in one of the many Pennsylvania valleys is East Broad Top Railroad, a 150-year-old narrow gauge line running through open farmland. With unspoiled and undeveloped land, this region may just be the Holy Grail of fall foliage. Become an explorer this fall and discover this unique treasure before others.
East Broad Top Railroad lies in Rockhill Furnace, Pennsylvania. The Smithsonian considers the railroad to be one of the best-preserved examples of 19th-century railroads and industrial complexes in the United States.
Travelers can step back in time to America’s Industrial Revolution on the one-hour train ride in enclosed or open-air passenger cars. Journey from the historic station to Colgate Grove and back.
Prices begin at $20 for adults and $15 for children. Guests can also check out the guided tours of the intact belt-driven machine shop and roundhouse, where steam engines wait for restoration. EBT partners with Rockhill Trolley Museum to offer electric trolley car rides, as well.
Although it’s not required, reservations are highly recommended. For more information on this experience and the railroad, as well as to make a reservation, click here.
