As pandemic-weary travelers begin to venture back out into the world for some much-needed family travel, it’s time to check out some of the updates to favorite locations that may have been missed. Seattle’s Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture received a much-needed upgrade at the end of 2019 and is excited to welcome visitors to enjoy the new look and purpose. New collections, activities, six galleries and visible workrooms make this a unique destination, perfect for families looking to discover the history and culture of the Pacific Northwest.
More than just a museum, the Burke is a hands-on research facility with working labs and collections covering a range of subjects like heritage, geology, biology and paleontology. Exhibits include Native American artifacts and artwork, preserved specimens of arachnids, fish, reptiles and birds, and fossils ranging from plants to dinosaurs.
By incorporating working labs into the museum’s daily operations, visitors get to experience an up-close and personal look at what goes into preserving, studying and caring for the history of our world.
Entrance requires a timed entry ticket that must be obtained ahead of your visit. The museum, located at University of Washington’s Seattle campus, is open Tuesday through Sunday 10 a.m. –5 p.m., and visitors should plan on setting aside at least two hours to explore the Burke and its collections.
