One of the best ways to see the Greek Islands is by ship and, next summer, families can get in on the fun on a Disney Cruise Line adventure, as the line celebrates its return to the destination.
In the summer of 2020, Disney Magic will return to Greece for the first time in five years. The Greek ports of call will highlight three new Mediterranean voyages — one for 12 nights and two for nine nights, respectively, departing from Rome. Destinations will include Piraeus, the gateway to Athens; Katakolon, near ancient Olympia; and the islands of Santorini, Mykonos and Crete.
Along with the stops in Greece, the three Mediterranean itineraries will also call at other A-list destinations in the region. Two of the sailings include a new port of call in Messina, Italy, for example, where families can visit landmarks in Sicily such as Mount Etna, the highest and most active volcano in Europe, or the Piazza del Duomo, the city’s historic center. The third itinerary features a return to Dubrovnik, Croatia, known as the Pearl of the Adriatic, for the first time in five years.
Some other highlights include a few fascinating European ports of call you may not have heard of — and may have trouble pronouncing — like Gdynia, Poland; Nordfjordeid, Norway; Plymouth, England; and Zeebrugge, Belgium. The new itineraries will be available throughout most of the summer, before the Magic heads to northern Europe in late summer for cruises to the Baltic, the British Isles and the Norwegian fjords.
In other Disney Cruise Line news, Disney Wonder will return to Alaska in 2020 for the summer season with a series of seven-night itineraries that depart from Vancouver, Canada. Highlights include stops in Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point and Dawes Glacier.
To make the most of these sailings, guests can spring for a variety of add-on packages from Adventures by Disney, which offer family guided group vacations in the Mediterranean, northern Europe, the Caribbean and Alaska.
Adventures by Disney also offers pre-cruise vacations in Rome, London, Barcelona and Copenhagen. The two- to three-night escapes feature such experiences as a private, after-hours visit to the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel in Rome, flamenco dancing, mosaic making and preparing local cuisine — all designed to immerse families in the culture of each region.
