On July 1, Eurail welcomed European Sleeper to its network, allowing family travelers to take advantage of their Eurail pass to cover longer distances using fewer rail pass days. This is good news for families, singles and couples planning trips that include widely separated destinations.
For example, a family with a Eurail Pass could travel from Amsterdam to Berlin, leaving at 9:30 p.m. and arriving in Berlin just before 7 a.m., while using only one day of their Eurail pass quota.
Other cities on this European Sleeper route include Antwerp, Rotterdam and Brussels, and as the network expands, Dresden and Prague are expected to be added by spring 2024.
While travel by train carries a certain romance for adults, it’s especially exciting for children. More comfortable than a car, trains give kids room to move around, with no seatbelts and better views of passing villages and cities they would have in the backseat of a car.
Kids love the idea of falling asleep in one country and waking up in another. Train travelers can also feel good they are using a more energy-efficient and sustainable way to travel.
The popular Eurail passes are available in a variety of configurations and lengths, including single country or Global Pass, valid in 33 European countries. Travel days vary from four days to a maximum of three months. You can choose a continuous pass, good every day in the chosen period, or a FlexiPass, allowing a fixed number of days within a one-month period.
