Although travel is on the rise, some people may still not feel comfortable getting on an airplane and being in a small space, so they are hitting the road! Rental car company Hertz recently surveyed more than 1,500 Americans to determine how and when they plan to embark on their next vacation.
More than 80 percent of Americans surveyed say they plan to take a road trip this summer and 86 percent agree they are more likely to hit the road compared to previous years. About 65 percent said a rental car was the mode of transportation that made them feel the most comfortable and 45 percent of participants said they prefer rental cars over taking their personal vehicle to avoid the extra miles on their car. Others liked the idea of upgrading from their usual car and going for a fancier one.
“Our data shows summer road trips are shaping up to be more popular than ever before in 2021,” said Laura Smith, senior vice president of Sales, Marketing and Customer Experience, Hertz. “People are ready to get out and make new memories, and we’re here to help them travel confidently with a safe, fast and easy rental experience.”
Over half of the road trippers surveyed said to keep them entertained they played I Spy, counted license plates or got trucks to honk as they drove by as a kid. Now instead of playing games, they crank up the music, whether it be the radio or from a streaming app.
Seventy-one percent of participants said road trips wouldn’t be complete without their significant other and nearly half said their summer road trips would take them to visit family. Also, about 35 percent said they cannot wait to reconnect with long-distance friends.
For those looking to take road trips this summer, Hertz is there to provide some helpful tips for a successful trip.
- When choosing a rental car, it is important to rent from a reputable company you can trust. Consider using Hertz, one of the most recognizable brands in the world.
- Make sure to plan your trip in advance and reserve your rental car at the same time as making your other arrangements.
- Choose the right car for your trip. Make sure to consider the amount of people, luggage and hours/days you will spend in the car so you’ll have enough room for everything you need and will also be comfortable.
- Lastly, pick a car you are comfortable with; if not, make sure to familiarize yourself with the car and its functions before leaving the lot.
