New Hampshire is known for its snow-covered mountains and long history as a family travel ski destination. You don’t need to travel to the White Mountains to find ski resorts: Two full-service ski areas are less than 1.5 hours from Boston, and the smaller McIntyre is less than an hour away.
Resorts throughout the state keep skiing affordable with discounts, special programs and package deals.
Families with young children will find free lift tickets for kids under 6 at most mountains, and beginners of any age can often find discounted passes for learning and novice slopes. For example, at Granite Gorge Mountain Park in Keene, a Base Camp ticket is only $20.
Look for special rates on certain days or dates, such as King Pine’s Tuesday deal, where all guests can ski or ride from 3:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays for just $20. Cranmore Mountain in North Conway offers a day’s skiing for $59 on Feb. 8 and March 15 to those who reserve ahead online.
Beginning skiers of all ages can save by booking a learn-to-ski package, which bundles lessons, rentals and lift tickets into a money-saving rate. Both McIntyre Ski Area and Pats Peak combine night skiing and snowboarding, snowtubing, rentals, and lesson tips for a discounted rate of between $58 and $99 most Saturdays.
Those planning a multiday vacation have even more money-saving options, with discounted two-, three-, and/or four-ticket packs available at Loon Mountain Resort, Tenney Mountain, King Pine, Cannon Mountain, Waterville Valley Resort, Ragged Mountain Resort and Cranmore Mountain. These require reservations in advance and may be limited, especially during holiday and school vacation weeks.
Full-service resorts with lodging, such as Waterville Valley Resort, Bretton Woods/Omni Mount Washington and King Pine/Purity Spring Resort, combine rooms with ski passes in a money-saving package. At Purity Spring, all family members staying at the resort can ski free during their stay.
Ski NH offers a limited number of fully transferable, discounted lift tickets valid any day of the 2025–2026 season. Parents of fourth- and fifth-grade students can purchase a student passport through SkiNH for just $59, entitling them to one free day ticket at 32 different ski resorts in the state.
While cross-country skiing is not as expensive as downhill, families planning to be in the Mt. Washington Valley over the weekend of Feb. 7 and 8 can ski at any of the six outstanding Nordic centers in the region for just $26. Participating in the Chasing Gold Weekend Pass are Bretton Woods Nordic Center, Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center, Jackson Ski Touring Foundation, Mt. Washington Valley Ski Touring & Snowshoe Foundation, Bear Notch Ski Touring Center, and Purity Spring XC & Snowshoe Reserve.
