Family travelers won’t have to leave their furry friend behind next year thanks to a new sailing from Margaritaville Cruises. Cruise Tails and Expedia Cruises of West Orlando teamed up to bring the first-ever dog-friendly cruise, setting sail out of Tampa, Florida. The inaugural cruise debuts next November with the waitlist opening soon.
Taking place on Margaritaville at Sea’s signature flagship vessel Islander, 250 dogs and owners will become the Inaugural Ambassadors aboard the cruise. Guests can expect unique experiences, activities, gifts and samples from top vendors; dog shows and training; guest speakers; costume contests; and much more.
To ensure the cruise experience goes smoothly for owners and their pets, Cruise Tails implemented a number of protocols including:
- All participants must apply and be approved by the Cruise Tails team. Sailors must agree to protocols such as keeping dogs in permitted areas and ensuring they are up to date on vaccinations.
- Each guest will be assigned a Pet Butler to help keep the cabin and boat areas in top condition for everyone on board.
- Each dog will have access to a private relief station on their own balcony.
- Each dog will need a Pet Health Certificate and Passport signed off by a licensed veterinarian. Paperwork must include all vaccination records and updated health checks.
“I consider my Yorkie, Louis, to be part of my family, and for years I missed out on the “family reunion” cruise because I will not travel without him. I want to change that for myself and other dog lovers,” said Steve Matzke, Cruise Tails.
