Family travelers who love fishing won’t want to miss these exciting ice fishing events in Grand County, Colorado. The destination kicks off 2025 with a variety of ice-fishing competitions with the chance to reel in the “big one” for big prizes. Head to one of four lakes and reservoirs at daybreak to see some of the best sunrises in Colorado, as well witness the heartwarming culture and camaraderie unique to the ice-fishing industry. All ages and skill levels are welcome to join in on the fun.
36th Annual 3 Lakes Ice Fishing Tournament
Jan. 24–26, participate in the longest-running ice fishing tournament in the West. Hosted by Destination Granby and Sun Outdoors, participants carefully select their desired spots on one of three mountain lakes to drill a hole and drop a line for a chance to reel in the biggest catch. Guests are welcome to enter for one, two or all three days of the competition for a chance to win $26,000 in cash prizes, as well as gift cards, trophies and other prizes. If that’s not for you, you can still attend the kickoff party and awards ceremony at Sun Outdoors in Granby before and after fishing. All proceeds benefit Destination Granby, a non-profit organization supporting the local community. Those who want to participate are encouraged to register ahead of time online.
28th Annual Wolford Mountain Reservoir Ice Fishing Contest
In partnership with Colorado Parks & Wildlife and Colorado River District, Kremmling Chamber of Commerce and Town of Kremmling host a one-day tournament Feb. 15. The tournament offers hourly cash prizes for the biggest fish, including $2,500 for the first tagged fish, as well as gift cards and raffle prizes for all in attendance.
Tightline Outdoors Ice Addition Series
Tightline Outdoors Ice Addition Series is a single-day contest where guests are invited to try to lure a variety of trout, bass and other fish from under the ice. The contest boasts stunning scenery, small-town charm, and $25,000 in cash and other prizes. Travelers and locals of all ages are invited to participate for a $60 registration fee, which includes the angler’s choice of pre-drilled holes for convenience.
