Go Out on a Limb to Visit These Treehouse Hotels

They say the national parks are like vacationing in your own backyard, but with unique accommodations in treehouse hotels, it really seems like it. Go out on a limb and enjoy some deluxe accommodations in the great outdoors.

With a massive e-conscious renovation set to wrap this autumn, it only makes sense guests would be able to see the forest through the trees at Hotel Rodavento’s new premium suite forest lofts. Four two-story modules at this Valle de Bravo, Mexico, retreat all feature one king-bed guestroom per floor the blend into the canopy with a “loft” feel with steel, cement and earthy palettes of dark browns and greens. Each room includes a distinct feeling of privacy and own line of sight, making for a unique little “nest.”

Frette linens will have you feeling like you’re truly in the clouds at Primland Tree Houses in Dan, Va., where expansive views of majestic Kibler Valley and North Carolina piedmont are yours from the panorama of an expansive private deck. Inside, flat-panel TVs, soaking tubs, an in-room beverage center and nightly turn-down service are almost enough to make you want to enjoy the lush privacy and eschew amenities at the lodge like on-site restaurants and activities like fishing, horseback riding and geocaching.

Ziplining in Forest with Family

What better way than a zipline experience to get a good view of all that awaits at Cypress Valley Canopy Tours in Spicewood, Texas. Four treehouses and a ranch house sleep up to six people with shared and private bathrooms, kitchenettes, a heated natural rock tub and even an indoor waterfall.

An iPod docking station and WiFi? You better believe you’re in the same state as Silicon Valley and at Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, it’s like a stairway to heaven with free-standing structures on stilts nine feet off the ground. Expect skylights, fireplaces, in-room dining and a fitness center with infinity pool and complimentary activities including yoga.

Thirteen is a lucky number at Missouri Treehouse Cabins, where full kitchens help you cook up whatever you catch on fly fishing trips. There’s also canoeing and float trips here, or just float around your private quarters to revel in the glow of a native stone fireplace, chill out in whirlpool tubs and enjoy a massage on your private deck in the heart of Dora.

Vacationing in Amish Country may raise an eyebrow or two among your friends, but the Berlin Woods Tree Houses in Millersburg, Ohio, will make you take a second look. Six tree houses, all constructed just last year, include full living rooms with fireplaces, kitchen amenities, two-person Jacuzzis and furniture hand-hewn by the Amish. The comfy quarters do soar 30 feet above the ground, so those afraid of heights beware!

The “ordinary” treehouse hotel becomes an extraordinary experience at Out’n’About Treesort in Cave Junction, Ore., where the trunk of a giant cypress tree anchors the center of the Lofthaven tented treehouse; it also features a waterfall-filled bathtub. New treehouses Juniper and Willow are solar-powered, and the Nest is nestled below a giant zipline.
