Multigenerational

Orcas Island, the largest of Washington’s San Juan Islands, is a popular destination for outdoors enthusiasts and family travelers visiting the Pacific Northwest. One of the best ways to enjoy the stunning landscape and incredible views of the surrounding Salish Sea is by exploring some of its many incredible hiking trails. Hiking is always a great way for families to discover new destinations and, with trails for all skill levels, Orcas is the perfect place to stretch your legs.

If it’s your family’s first time hiking the wilderness, an easy trail like Obstruction Pass Trail is ideal. This 1.4-mile nature walk meanders gently through the woods, offering plenty of opportunities to view wildlife in its natural habitat. There are great opportunities to take a break and enjoy a picnic along Obstruction Pass Beach.

Cascade Lake Trail, which loops around Cascade Lake within the island’s Moran State Park, is perfect for families looking for a medium level hike. It offers endless views of the lake and the beautiful forest surrounding it. At just less than three miles long, this hike leaves you with plenty of time to enjoy the other amazing sites on Orcas Island.

Mount Constitution Loop Trail, one of the island’s harder hikes, features a different lake, Mountain Lake. Best for families with hiking experience, this nearly eight-mile trail features steep switchbacks that reward your effort with incredible vistas of the island.

Neos Airlines Provides Amenity Kits for Kids

Children’s programming and games are standard on most transcontinental flights, and Neos Airlines is no exception. While the Italian carrier is relatively new to the U.S. market, launching its first New York (JFK)–Milan (MXP) flights in 2021, it now counts Rome (FCO); Palermo (PMO); and Bari, Puglia (BRI) (as of June 2025) as destinations from New York. It has also established a niche as an affordable carrier with premium attributes and a soft spot for family travelers.
