Family travel is a great way to make memories and to ensure those memories last a lifetime, plan your next vacay around a quirky event you won’t find anywhere else. This summer, New York’s Cayuga County offers the perfect solution. Along with beautiful scenery, great camping and picturesque villages to explore, Cayuga County is also home to Moravia and its annual Fillmore Days festival, where visitors can enjoy a fun day of food, music and, of course, bathtub racing.

The three-day event, free to attend, is hosted at Fillmore Glen State Park in Moravia. The festivities start Aug. 10 with the Forge the Gorgeous Trail Run and continue with a free concert Aug. 11, featuring local artists Undefeated and Tink Bennett and Tailor Made. The final day of the festival is can’t miss, with bicycle races, pedal car races and a cornhole competition. A bathtub parade at noon gets everyone ready for the crowning event, the bathtub race, designed to bring some good, old-fashioned family fun to summer.

In addition to live music and the competitive events, Fillmore Days also include plenty of activities the whole family enjoys. Goods for sale from local artisans and craftsmen and plenty of wine, beer and cider from local wineries and breweries draw many, too.

While in the area, be sure to explore the park itself, which features 941 acres of beautiful scenery, famous for its five separate waterfalls, unique geological formations and a stream-fed swimming pool. On-site campsites and cabins make it easy to take your time exploring the park along with the nearby town of Moravia.
