Summer is lavender season in Door County, and that means it is a great time to bring the family to one of Wisconsin’s most beautiful regions. While the area is full of family-friendly adventures all year long, lavender season means you’ll get to experience fields of delicate purple blooms, the fragrant scent of lavender at every turn, and just about everything imaginable either scented with or flavored with this versatile ingredient.

The colorful fields and promise of sweet treats are a great reason to get the family outside to enjoy nature and some quality time together before the summer is gone. During your explorations around the county, you will find all sorts of seasonal treats like lavender lemonade, lavender cider and even lavender macarons. But to really experience the full flavor of the season, head to Washington Island for a visit to Fragrant Isle, the largest lavender farm in the Midwest.

Fragrant Isle is much more than a simple farm. While it is a fully functioning lavender farm, Fragrant Isle also welcomes guests to visit the sprawling fields, grab a lavender-flavored treat at Le Café or pick up a few lavender-scented products in the shop. The farm makes all of its own products, from lavender-scented aromatic essential oils, lotions and perfumes to candles, hand sanitizers, and insect repellents.

In the café, you can grab lunch items to replenish yourself after strolling through the fragrant fields or satisfy your sweet tooth with a lavender-flavored treat from the menu. Items include lavender snickerdoodle cookies, chocolate lavender bonbons and lavender vanilla ice cream. You can quench your thirst with a lavender iced coffee or get the kids a lavender berry slushie while you enjoy a lavender beer or a glass of lavender jalapeño wine.

Spending a few hours at Fragrant Isle is a great stop along your tour of Door County in the summer. Not only do you get some incredible photo ops among the beautiful blooms of the lavender fields, but you also get to enjoy one of the authentic flavors of the region that will always remind the family of summer in Wisconsin.
