Following the lead of Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, American Airlines is extending its member status. American Airlines understands that with reduced travel opportunities due to the coronavirus, the airline needs to extend frequent-flyer status to maintain member loyalty and encourage future travel plans.
Here are some ways AAdvantage members can expect to keep their status, and then some:
AAdvantage Elite Status
For those currently with elite status expiring Jan. 31, 2021, this date will be pushed back to Jan. 31, 2022. Elite status members enjoy benefits of their status with the ability to achieve higher status with lower qualification requirements.
Elite Qualification Requirements
In order to qualify for a higher elite status this year, American Airlines is lowering Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQD), Elite Qualifying Miles (EQM) and Elite Qualifying Segments (EQS) requirements.
Earn Million MilerSM status With Your Credit Card
For every dollar spent May–December on all eligible Citi / AAdvantage and AAdvantage Aviator credit card products (and select AAdvantage credit cards outside the United States) count as one mile toward Million MilerSM status.
Waiving Reinstatement Fees for Award Travel
For award flights booked by May 31, for travel through Sept. 30, members will enjoy waived fees. Award travel booked on/after June 1 will also see waived fees for changes made at least 60 days before travel. New fee structures will apply to changes made within 60 days of booked travel.
