With the weather heating up, it’s time to take the pool cover off and start playing and splashing in the sun. While any time spent in the pool is fun, there are plenty of games for the whole family to enjoy together.
Volleyball
There are a couple different ways to play volleyball in the pool. You can buy a net to go over the side of the pool or get one that has sand bags attached so it can float in the pool. If you don’t want to buy a net, just establish a middle ground that can be the net.
Basketball
Playing basketball in the pool is a classic summer activity, whether you have a net that floats around in the pool or one that sits on the side of the pool. You can play many different types of basketball, like one-on-one, multiplayer teams, H.O.R.S.E, practice trick shots and more.
Sharks and Minnows
Without having to buy any supplies, sharks and minnows is a great game to play with older kids who are strong swimmers. Pick one person to be the shark and the rest are minnows. The shark starts in the middle of the pool and says, “fishy fishy cross my sea,” then all the minnows have to swim across the pool without getting caught by the shark.
Inflatable Pool Pong
Although beer pong is targeted toward those 21 and older, Target sells an inflatable pong table where you can play water pong in the pool and make it family friendly. My family has one and it’s our favorite activity to do in the pool. Most of the time we hold it against the wall to keep it sturdy and easier, but sometimes we like to let it float freely to make it a little harder.
Cardboard Boat Races
Have the kids bring out their competitive side while racing against each other in a cardboard boat. Before they get into the water, have them create and build their own boats made out of only cardboard and duct tape. Once they have finished, set them off in the water and see who can get to the end of the pool first without sinking.
