As family skiing becomes more popular, condos at ski resorts are increasingly in high demand, becoming harder to find and book as ski season gets closer. So, if winter family travel plans include a vacation or even a weekend getaway at a ski resort, now is the time to nail down that condo.
The first to go are those right on the slopes, called ski-in/ski-out rooms. These are especially popular with families because everyone doesn’t need to go to the mountain at the same time. If someone wants to sleep late or young kids need a nap break, “home” is a few strides away. There’s no need to lug everyone’s equipment from the car each day, and you don’t need to stand in line for lunch when there’s a refrigerator and microwave in your condo.
These slope-side condos aren’t the only ones going fast. Suites at nearby hotels and resorts are also in high demand, especially at those with shuttles to the slopes. Most of these are also equipped with kitchens or kitchenettes where you can prepare your family’s breakfast and dinner.
The easiest to find as the season grows closer — or even after skiing begins — are those a little way from the mountain. Even though you’ll need to travel to the slopes each day, having a suite with plenty of room and kitchen facilities is a convenience you’ll appreciate.
The other advantage of booking a condo well ahead of ski season is you’ll have more choice of price ranges and are more likely to score one in your preferred price range. As choices get smaller, prices get higher. So if you haven’t begun your search for your family’s ski home-away-from-home, now is the time.
