This year is a special year for Rome. Every 25 years, the city celebrates a Jubilee Year, a Holy Year that focuses on renewal and reconciliation, and, as this year’s celebrations get underway, the city prepares to welcome 30 million visitors to take part in the festivities and take advantage of the opportunity to explore the Eternal City. The Jubilee Year officially kicked off Christmas Eve in 2024 and will end this December, and this year’s Jubilee theme is Pilgrims of Hope. Although the celebration is a Catholic tradition, marking the Jubilee Year a Holy Year, the tradition has its roots in Judaism and focuses on reconciliation and restoring relationships with God.
The city has been hard at work preparing for the 2025 Jubilee, working to restore sculptures and monuments around the city. While the Jubilee is centered around the Catholic Church, you don’t have to be associated with the church, or any other church, to appreciate the celebrations or enjoy the incredible architecture, food, culture and history of Rome.
If you plan to be in town for the celebrations, the Tour Guy is offering great experiences ideal for families and designed to give you an authentic look at Rome. The company offers a variety of price ranges to accommodate different needs and budgets ranging from group tours to semi-private and private tours, so you can have as much or as little personal attention and private interaction with your guide as you and your family desire.
In addition to their regular tours of legendary attractions like the Colosseum, Catacombs, Pantheon, Vatican and many more legendary Roman sites, the Tour Guy also offers a number of ways to discover the authentic vibe of the city through food tours, wine tours, night tours and bike tours. This year, however, they also have several tours designed specifically for the Jubilee, namely private tours of some of the Papal Basilicas and a private tour of St. Peter in Chais, the sacred site of Mamertine Prison associated with the Apostle Peter.

Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center is often overlooked by family travelers as it doesn’t actually encompass a museum building. Instead, the organization appears through community efforts and exhibitions at other museums. This spring, Smithsonian APAC launches its inaugural exhibit at National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C.
