With leopard shark season here, now is the best time for family travelers to experience these creatures up close. These harmless “puppies of the sea” return to the warm, shallow waters of La Jolla Cove in San Diego, California.
Locally owned ocean, adventure and lifestyle brand Everyday California invite visitors to experience these creatures up close with guided tours of La Jolla Ecological Reserve. Go kayaking or snorkeling through the top snorkel destination and encounter not only leopard sharks but also dolphins, orange garibaldi and more.
Everyday California offers hour-long tours daily, starting at $64. On a kayaking tour, families and visitors aged 5 and up can venture to one of San Diego’s coolest attractions. In summer, spot leopard shark gatherings, while winter promises sightings of gray whales on their annual migration from Alaska to Baja California.
Tour guides are both experienced kayakers and knowledgeable about the local ecosystem. Guides provide fun facts and information throughout the tour, making it fun and educational for both adults and children. Single and tandem kayaks are available.
Snorkel tours are also available for guests aged 5 and up. Tours include a mask, snorkel and fins rental. You’ll spot sea lions, garibaldi, bat rays, shove nose guitar fish and sea turtles if you’re lucky.
