Looking for a unique experience for your family travel? Until the end of August, head to the Heart of Canada for a unique opportunity to witness the largest population of beluga whales in the world migrate to the western Hudson Bay region of Churchill, Manitoba.
More than 60,000 beluga whales gather annually in the Churchill River and other Northern Manitoba rivers after winter ice melts. The magical animals feed and give birth in the warmer waters alongside Churchill.
Northern Manitoba’s exclusivity as the only place in the world where visitors can get up close and personal with belugas makes it the perfect destination for whale watchers and animal lovers to enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime experience.

To experience this phenomenon, plenty of tours from reputable operators offer trips, including Sea North Tours, Lazy Bear Expeditions, Churchill Wild and Frontiers North Adventures. Travelers can boat, kayak or paddle board to witness these stunning creatures in their natural habitat.
During the tour, listen for the enchanting underwater sounds of the belugas, such as high-pitched whistles, clicks and chirps, through a hydrophone. The belugas often try to interact with guests by riding in the motor wake or giving a playful nudge to kayakers. Lucky guests may even catch a glimpse of adorable grey calves popping in and out of the water alongside their moms.
