Snowy Lake Superior Town Does Holidays Differently

Did you know Marquette County, Michigan, is one of the snowiest destinations east of the Rocky Mountains? Every winter, Marquette County turns into a winter wonderland with snow-covered forests and winter fun, a great destination for family travelers. Highlights include:

Holiday Lights

Unlike traditional holiday drive-through light displays, Holiday Lasers on the Ore Dock combines local history with modern technology to create a colorful laser light show along Marquette’s iconic Lower Harbor Ore Dock. Through a partnership with Fresh Coast Light lab, the free show can be seen Thursday–Saturday from Thanksgiving weekend until the end of December.

European-Style Christmas Market

Downtown Ishpeming transforms into an open-air holiday market for the first-ever Ishpeming Kriskindlmart. Nov. 27–28 and Dec. 4–5, guests and locals alike can wander through decorated wooden huts selling handcrafted gifts, seasonal food and drinks, and more. The nearby Snowshoe Pub will feature live entertainment and family-friendly activities, as well.

Fun in the Snow

Head to Marquette Mountain Resort for 170 skiable acres and stunning views of Lake Superior. The snow activities don’t stop there: Marquette County is known as the fat-tire biking hub of the Midwest and features miles of winter trails, like Noquemanon Snow Bike Routes and RAMBA Snow Bike Trails. Snowshoers can visit Al Quaal Recreation area, specifically the Baby Like Trail, for some of the best snowshoeing routes in the Midwest. Snowmobilers can explore winding routes through jack pine forests, Big Bay and Up Mount Marquette. As trails continue, the landscape changes from a snow-covered forest to frozen waterfalls and one-of-a-kind scenery.
