The top destination in Texas for families, San Antonio has added even more reasons to choose it for a vacation this summer. Family travelers will find new attractions at theme parks, the zoo and popular Natural Bridge Caverns.
Every family trip should include — maybe even begin with — San Antonio’s signature attraction, a ride through the heart of the city on a Go Rio San Antonio River Cruise. It’s not only fun for all ages, but also a good introduction to the city and its lively River Walk.
The kids will probably clamor for a day at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, even more fun this summer with the opening of Hurricane Harbor San Antonio, with its Bonzai Pipelines racing tube slides and Vortex raft ride for kids. The world’s first launched flume coaster, Catapult Falls, opens this summer at Sea World San Antonio, where boats climb a vertical lift and catapult through a water track before plunging down a 53-degree water chute at nearly 40 miles per hour. For less of an adrenaline rush, take the kids to the new ImaginOcean, a glow-in-the-dark puppet show with music and a marine-theme.
Hidden Wonders, the new tour experience at Natural Bridge Caverns, features state-of-the-art lighting in a sound-and-light show that travels into newly opened areas of Hidden Cavern not included in tours before. Hidden Cavern is a unique environment without a natural opening to the surface. Delicate formations that grew in this sealed cavern are made even more dramatic by lighting along the passageways through the cave.
Dinosaur-loving kids will want to see Scotty, one of the most massive and complete Tyrannosaurus Rex skeletons known. This and other fossil skeletons and models are on display through Sept. 4 in the special Tyrannosaurs: Meet the Family exhibit at Witte Museum. Hands-on exhibits and experiences for kids at the museum include the popular Texas Treehouse.
Families can save money on admission to many of these and more attractions with a CityPass San Antonio, which also includes savings on dining and other activities.

We know the many benefits of travel. When we journey away from our homes to destinations near and far, we gain opportunities to experience new (to us) communities through cultures, customs, landscapes and, of course, cuisines. And when we travel with others, those experiences are not only shared but they also improve our relationships.
