The Watergate, Washington, D.C.

The iconic Watergate Hotel made its renaissance debut in June 2016 after a $200 million renovation of the Luigi Moretti original, which dates from the 1960s. Moretti designed the complex with a vision of a “ship on the Potomac,” with curved lines that nod to the marine inspiration. The newly created hotel interior replicates his curvilinear architecture throughout, with spiral stairs, twisted columns made from mirror-polished, stainless-steel tubes and spiral steel shelving in the opulent Next Whiskey Bar in the lobby. Distinctive, softly rounded lobby furnishings by Ron Arad for Moroso include an abstract, red-felt sectional couch, playfully named “The Misfit Sofa,” as well as a custom-designed rug weaving black and gray threads into an elaborate pattern. Kingbird, a new double-height restaurant with eight large, specially designed spiral chandeliers under a black polished plaster ceiling, was also designed by Ron Arad Architects.

Hotel Bel Ami, Paris

Last September, when I checked into the 5-star Hôtel Bel-Ami, on a quiet street on the Left Bank, my first thought was how happy my granddaughter would have been to have stayed in this oh-so-stylish, 108-room boutique hotel while we were together in Paris, because it’s so well-located near all the cafés, shops and boutiques in the St. Germain des Pres quartier (neighborhood).

Hotels with Cultural Immersion Opportunities

You want to know about the land you’re visiting but you’re not quite ready to learn about it on your own. Maybe you have small kids that wouldn’t cooperate for long. Maybe you have a hard time walking around or maybe you want the information but you also want your Zumba classes and your exotic flowers served poolside in a frothy cocktail. The only thing you have to choose is which hotel has the experience you’re craving to immerse yourself into and when you’re ready to move on.

Following the recent agreement to increase flights between the U.S. and Chinese governments, the airline now adds four weekly flights from Los Angeles (LAX) to Shanghai (PVG).

Loews Loves Families Program

When we learned Loews Hotels enhanced its familiar Loews Loves Kids program this summer to the more inclusive Loews Loves Families, we decided it was a good time to plan a weekend at Loews Hotel Boston. We found a chic, smart city hotel that would have been as good a nest for a couple’s weekend as it was for a family adventure.
