These Resorts Launch a Study Abroad Program for Families

The Family Coppola Hideaways in Belize and Guatemala offer a new study abroad concept for family travelers seeking enriched educational experiences. The all-new Coppola Curriculum includes hands-on volunteer work in local communities, wood carving and textile looming, Creole and Spanish classes, cooking lessons, and visits to nearby archaeological sites.

The program features a variety of study events offered three–four hours per day for children of all ages while parents enjoy resort amenities. The curriculum focuses on areas of science, arts, language, adventure, culinary, service and culture.


Study events include:

  • Science: Bird counting by species and scientific name while on horseback, organic gardening and education of medicinal plants, and coral restoration education
  • Adventure: Horseback riding and grooming, PADI certification, and canoe to Cerro Cahui Natural Reserve for a guided trek
  • Arts: Wood carving and/or textile looming by local artisans, painting classes, photography lessons, and guitar lessons
  • Culinary: Cooking lessons, tortilla making and guacamole preparation
  • Service: Visit nearby community schools to read Spanish short tales to primary school kids, pack for a purpose deliveries to remote villages and plant mahogany trees in the cockscomb Jaguar preserve
  • Language: Creole and Spanish classes involving writing, reading and assignments
  • Culture: Visit an archaeological site and learn about historic ruins and Mayan artifacts

United Continues Its Global Expansion

United Airlines keeps soaring to new heights, recently announcing another expansion of its leading global route network. The airline added new non-stop flights between Newark (EWR) and Marrakesh (RAK), Morocco; Tokyo (NRT) and Cebu (CEB), Philippines; and Houston (IAH) and Medellin (MDE), Colombia. That’s not all: United also plans to increase flights to popular worldwide destinations including Hong Kong (HKG); Seoul (INC), South Korea; and Porto (OPO), Portugal. Following the recent agreement to increase flights between the U.S. and Chinese governments, the airline now adds four weekly flights from Los Angeles (LAX) to Shanghai (PVG).
