Your furry best friends don’t have to miss out on family travels to Virginia Beach. August brings two reasons to take a getaway with your pets, Spoil Your Dog Day on Aug. 10 and National Dog Day on Aug. 26.

Virginia Beach offers a variety of attractions and experiences for dog owners looking for an unforgettable trip. With miles of beaches, exciting outdoor spaces and a welcoming atmosphere, both humans and dogs can bask in its coastal charm.

Sandbridge, Chesapeake Bay, Croatan and Chick’s Beach are just a sampling of the region’s pet-friendly beaches. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Boardwalk welcomes leashed dogs from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pets and their owners can also play at one of the many pet-friendly parks and trails like First Landing State Park.

The destination also offers plenty of pet-friendly dining options. Beach Bully BBQ, Bay Local Eatery and The Back Deck all offer outdoor seating or a patio area where your furry friends can lounge at your side. Other options include Bow Wow Brunch at Lunasea, the Doggie Deck at Simple Eats and the lawn area at Taste Unlimited’s bayside location. Grab a drink at the newly opened Pups and Pints, which combines a dog park and taproom with play spaces and toys for dogs. End the night with a sweet treat from Salty Paws.

With a wide range of pet-friendly accommodations in the area, guests and their furry companions will feel right at home. Properties like Hyatt Place Virginia Beach Oceanfront, Westin Virginia Beach Town Center, The Founders Inn and Spa, Embassy Suites Oceanfront Resort and Moxy Virginia Beach Oceanfront offer amenities like pet beds and food and water bowls.
