Family travelers can now venture to the depths of the ocean and see marine life up close — all from the comfort of a cushioned bus seat thanks to a new VR sightseeing experience in Waikiki, Hawai’i. Xplore Ride uses cutting-edge technology aboard a zero-emission electric vehicle to immerse visitors into the local environment, meaning even the youngest of travelers can take part.

Once on the bus, each person receives an individual VR headset, which transports passengers to a mythical underwater city. The VR tour is guided by Ancestral Spirit Aumakua, the Hawaiian god of the sea, and he brings visitors through coral reefs and volcanoes while telling Hawaiian legends.
There’s even an interactive game for everyone to take part in. Bond with the family, unravel mysteries of Hawai’i and collect Mana stones.

Don’t think this experience means you’re missing out on the actual beauty of Waikiki. In fact, this tour strategically passes by key landmarks in the region, including Waikiki Beach, Kapiolani Park, Ala Wai Canal and Diamond Head, blending virtual exploration with real-world views.
Xplore Ride is available for passengers aged 7 and up. Tours last about 45 minutes. Tickets are $48 for adults and $34 for children. Book the experience here.
