Unless you’ve been living under a rock, chances are you’ve heard of The LEGO Movie — and, if you have young children, we suspect you’ve actually seen the film more than once. With that in mind, it’s not too soon to think ahead to the grand opening of THE LEGO MOVIE WORLD, which will open at LEGOLAND Florida Resort next spring.
In addition to immersing visitors into the sights and sounds of the movie, key attractions will include three new rides. Masters of Flight is a flying theater attraction where guests join Master Builders on an action-packed adventure featuring Emmet’s latest invention, The Triple Decker Flying Couch. The flying couch whisks riders all over the movie’s universe in a suspended, 180-degree ride with a full-dome virtual screen that simulates the feeling of flying.
Unikitty’s Disco Drop is a family ride that elevates guests to the heights of Cloud Cuckoo land, then drops, spins and bounces them around — maybe best experienced before lunch.
In the Battle of Bricksburg, guests take a seat in construction vehicles, navigating the flooded streets of Bricksburg for an interactive water play attraction. Riders are challenged to stop DUPLO aliens from invading and stealing LEGO bricks by spraying water at targets. Beware, however, because onlookers are encouraged to join the splash battle experience by spraying water cannons located on the perimeter of the course.
Of course, LEGOLAND Florida Resort, built for kids aged 2 to 12 and located about 45 minutes from Orlando and Tampa, offers plenty of other attractions. The 150-acre theme park features more than 50 rides in all, as well as shows and attractions inspired by LEGO brands and characters. Other attractions include LEGOLAND Water Park, the 152-room LEGOLAND Hotel and the 166-room LEGOLAND Beach Retreat.
Looking for a way to experience the park without breaking the bank? If you’re lucky enough to be a Florida resident, LEGOLAND offers a Seasonal Play Pass, good for admission through Dec. 21 for $54.99 plus tax. The idea behind the pass is to let people “test drive” an annual pass in advance of the grand opening of THE LEGO® MOVIE™ WORLD.
Can’t wait that long? The new Great LEGO Race is already in full swing and combines a roller coaster ride with virtual reality technology. The ride challenges visitors to a virtual race with LEGO mini-figure competitors while taking an exciting roller coaster ride.
