Two new hotels in Tuolumne County welcome guests: Firefall Ranch and Chicken Ranch Casino Resort. Firefall Ranch opened in May with 55 standalone cottages and villas set across 300 acres. The resort hosts seasonal and daily activities including s’mores making, stargazing, wine tastings, bocce ball and ping pong. Chicken Ranch Casino Resort began welcoming guests this month. Currently the largest hotel in Tuolumne County, the property boasts 197 guestrooms and suites, restaurants, bars, and more than 100,000 square feet of gaming space.

Learn about the region’s Gold Rush history. Start by visiting Columbia State Historic Park, a former gold mine site. Try your hand at gold panning with a visit to Matelot Gulch Mining. Located at the park, the family-owned property hosts gold panning experiences where guests may keep whatever gold or gemstones they find. Book a guided experience with California Gold Panning in Jamestown, California. Tours last one–four hours, or opt for a full-day experience.
Visit Stanislaus National Forest. There are plenty of hiking and biking trails within this park, as well as access to Carlon Falls on the Tuolumne River. Adventurous travelers may book a whitewater-rafting experience on the river.
