Real estate platform Zumper recently revealed the results of its study on the most and least pet-friendly cities in the United States for renters.
Choosing a pet-friendly place to live is important to renters. In Zumper’s 2022 Annual Rent Report, 43 percent of renters reported having at least one pet.
The recent ranking is based on key factors including percent of rental listings that allow pets, price, number of parks and green spaces per capita, access to veterinary care and walkability. Richmond, Virginia, ranked in the top spot due in part to its pet-friendly amenities. More than 85 percent of rentals in Richmond are pet friendly, compared to the national average of 62 percent. Portland, Oregon, ranked in the top five for most veterinarians per capita. Jersey City, New Jersey, ranked as the worst city for renters, scoring an F on all but two factors. New York City, New York, boasts the highest upcharge for a pet-friendly rental.
