Destinations / North America

Celebrate Black History Month with a visit to Greater Miami and Miami Beach, Florida. The region hosts special events February and beyond.

The Betsy Hotel presents cultural programming amplifying Black voices throughout February with music, poetry readings and more. Later this year, the American Black Film Festival celebrates Black film and television with a series of screenings, panels and other community programming. This year’s event takes place May 27–31.

Spend time exploring the region’s vibrant neighborhoods. Historic Overtown was once known as the Harlem of the South, playing host to a variety of iconic Black performers from Ella Fitzgerald to Sam Cooke. Historic Virginia Key Beach was the only beach accessible to Black individuals during segregation. Today, the beach honors its legacy through cultural events and educational programming.

Support Black-owned businesses in February and throughout the year. Check out Red Rooster Overtown, which recently celebrated five years in Historic Overtown. The restaurant showcases Black culinary traditions and local flavors. Enjoy elevated comfort food and creative cocktails at Kitchen + Kocktails from Kevin Kelley. Kimpton Surfcomber Miami, South Beach hosts restaurant Las’ Lap Feb. 20 for a night celebrating Afro-Caribbean cuisine with two Top Chef alums, Kwame Onwuachi and Nina Compton.
