Richmond, Virginia, is home to more fun than a family can realistically have on a single vacation. And that isn’t a bad thing, since different seasons offer different landscapes, flavors, festivals and ways to enjoy the region. So, you’ll not only have plenty of ways to keep the family happy and entertained when you visit, but you’ll also have plenty of reasons to go back all year long.
The Richmond region is home to a beautiful landscape full of vibrant local culture begging to be explored. From bountiful farms dotting the region’s landscape to antebellum architecture that set the vibe for the city of Richmond, it is an ideal place to bring a family.
The area is home to plenty of family-friendly attractions like King’s Dominion, a theme park home to the East Coast’s largest selection of rollercoasters for the bigger kids, and Planet Snoopy for the younger ones. Once weather warms up, kids (all of them, even grown ones) will love Soak City water park. The park offers season passes, known as the Silver Pass, for $95, so you can visit once and keep coming back with each trip to Richmond through Labor Day.
To see the sites without wearing out the family, load the gang into a tuk tuk and take a tour of the city to experience the sights firsthand with RVATukTuk, a fun touring company using 100 percent electric tuk tuks in all tours. You can do a customized tour; take in some local art with a Mural Tour; or teach kids about American history with the Civil War, Slavery and Emancipation Tour, all while teaching kids to leave a smaller carbon footprint.
When it comes to food, the area has a rich culinary scene that really caters to families. From Shyndigz, indulge in incredible sweets, along with a sandwiches, salads, quiches and dips. Or make an outdoor day out of your meal and grab a charcuterie board to go and enjoy it in the fresh air at one of the more than 40 parks and playgrounds in Richmond.
