Families visiting San Diego have the luxury of beautiful weather any time of year, but as the country is deep in the throes of winter, now feels like the perfect time for a trip to one of Southern California’s most beautiful beach towns. The San Diego area is a haven for family travelers, with plenty of fun attractions perfect during winter for kids of all ages.
Legoland California, in Carlsbad, is not just fun for little ones who love to play with the iconic block toys, but also for adult Lego lovers. Kids will love the rides and activities, like building your own miniature boat from Lego and seeing how it fares in the water, while adult Lego afficionados will be fascinated by the massive builds around the park and hidden along the course of the Coast Cruise water ride. The all-new Dino Valley, opened last year, is a fun new adventure filled with Lego dinosaurs, dinosaur-themed rides, and a build and play area. Thanks to the great weather San Diego enjoys throughout winter and smaller crowds compared to summertime, winter is the perfect time of year to visit this outdoor theme park.
The Birch Aquarium is a great way to introduce kids to marine life up close and in person. Whether they simply love penguins or are fascinated with a possible career in marine biology, the aquarium has indoor and outdoor areas to let kids learn and have fun, rain or shine.
If you’re traveling with little ones, you’ll definitely want to visit New Children’s Museum so kids can have some play time in a safe and nurturing environment. The museum lets them burn some of that boundless kid energy exploring and playing in a space designed just for them, and thanks to its location downtown, it is close enough to other attractions, like USS Midway Museum and San Diego Zoo.
