Despite the bitter cold, snowfall and confusing March weather, rest assured, spring is coming. With the longer days and inevitable warmer weather, families can a add a spring to their step knowing a break from the cold is on the way — that, and it’s prime time to plan for a family spring break vacation.

If you’re looking for a reason to travel that’s both interesting and entertaining for the kids, the Greater Williamsburg region in Virginia is a top contender. For the little ones in your family, think of the wildlife roaming Busch Gardens as a backdrop to the park’s fun lineup of family-friendly festivals and new activities, just in time for the spring season.

Your family certainly has its work cut out for them when it comes to choosing a seasonal event. With “American Adventure” exhibits for families on display for history buffs, through April 21; various activities during Sesame Street Kids’ Weekends, April 5–28; the all-new Finnegan’s Flyer ride, opening in May; and the Food & Wine Festival celebrated May 17–June 30, guests can take their pick.

For Kids

Bring the kids to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg for some story time, dance parties, arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, live shows, games and rides. The little ones in your party can meet their favorite characters and enjoy the Forest of Fun. Check out the list of dates and see when your family’s favorite Sesame Street resident will be there. If Williamsburg is a little out of the way for your family, Busch Gardens has other locales that might work for you.

For Tweens

Back at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, the thrill-seeking kids in your family will be happy to know a new ride is opening this spring. Officially debuting in May, Finnegan’s Flyer is an adventurous swing ride, rocking 32 riders back and forth, 80 feet up, making the 45 mph speeds feel like flying. Add this one to your list of rollercoasters and fast-paced rides to hop on for a busy day at the theme park.

For Parents and Adult Children

Foodies, pack your appetites and head to the park’s Food & Wine Festival. Held over select days of the festival, May 17–June 30, guests can dine on more than 60 menu options, more than two dozen craft beer choices, 30 different wines and 20 cocktails — all uniquely offered in the park only during the event. Read more about the menu items available and see if the event is for your foodie family. This festival is included with regular park admission, but food and drink prices are additional.
