Age Specific / Adult Children

When the youngest family member turned 18, it signaled time to discover adult destinations, including all-inclusive resorts. Palace Resorts opened Le Blanc Spa Resort Los Cabos — its second, adult-only, newly built all-inclusive property — in March 2018, in the thriving resort, golf and fishing destination at the southern tip of Mexico’s 1,000-mile-long Baja California peninsula.

The contemporary structure faces the sandy shores of the Sea of Cortez along the haute hotel-lined corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, with its authentic shops, restaurants and art galleries, just 20 minutes distant.

My recent, four-night experience attests the resort earns high marks for luxury, along with the convenience of a package price that includes food, drink, butler service and resort credits toward golf and spa activities and experiences.

The resort features four cabana-studded outdoor pools; a high-tech, 4,000-square-foot fitness center; and a superlative spa. There are six (two swim-up) bars and eight restaurants — from an elegant gastronomic choice to a roofed seafront venue with great seafood specialties, a spectacular, all-day international buffet, Italian and Asian restos and a patisserie/café — plus, complimentary 24 hour room service. They’re all overseen by Executive Chef Florian Dürre, whose menu incorporates Certified Angus beef, locally caught fish, seafood and produce, plus pastries prepared by pastry chef Antonio Bachour, who won the Best Chef Awards, 2018.

The 374-room hotel offers an array of full/partial sea-view accommodations, with furnished balconies; sized between 760–1,400 square feet, they are light-filled and well-appointed: king (or two double) beds, two large closets, a foodie station (coffee and tea pot, a stocked snack drawer and refrigerator, plus a enclosed cabinet with three bottles of alcohol and dispensers, all complimentary). Large drawers fit beneath a long bench under the flat-screen TV and furnishings include a desktop, reading chair, lamp and a bench at the foot of the bed. Double sinks, a private toilet, a separate rain shower and a free-standing tub outfit the bathroom, which features a lighted make-up mirror, Bulgari amenities, luxury bath salts and CHI flatirons and blow dryers.

The phenomenal 29,000-square-foot, full-service spa houses 25 treatment rooms, including six for couples. NaturaBissé products are incorporated in the spa menu; its signature treatment is the four-hand Pericue Massage, an indigenous ritual passed down from the region’s ancient native tribe. For relaxation, curved, warmed, mosaic tile-covered lounges await in the ladies lounge, outside the herbal steam room, sauna, chromotherapy and ice room. The co-ed hydrotherapy space houses white cloth-covered, cabana-like cubicles — each with two chaises and a table — facing four indoor pools, including a large swimming pool with a waterfall and jets, a large round hot tub and a cold plunge pool.

I was duly impressed by the guest service: One of the six (or eight) valets on duty escorted me to my locker, offered me a robe, a drink and a place to lounge. After my service, she brought me an iced washcloth in the hot tub and a dry robe; when I exited, again she escorted me to a lounge, offered a drink and brought me dry towels.

Likewise admirable is the butler service. On each floor with accommodations, the personal butler steps out of his/her glassed-in office adjacent to the elevator, greets guests by name and suggests: “Can I draw a bath? Bring the nightly aromatherapy menu? The pillow menu?” I declined each. Then, he said: “Unpack?”

Yes! That’s a service I appreciate. Muy agradable!

United Airlines Celebrates its First Class of United Aviate Graduates

United Airlines is in the midst of a major initiative to modernize its fleet over the next several years. United flyers are sure to notice these enhancements from the moment they step on board: Each new or updated plane sports remodeled seats, seatback entertainment screens for everyone, Bluetooth connectivity and more, all adding up to a better experience on every journey.
