Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa

Age Specific / Baby

Kids want to play Ariel for day? Mom looking to channel Darryl Hannah in Splash? Dad thinks he’s Aquaman? (Okay he’s not technically a merman but you get the gist.) A new excursion on Maui can give anyone fins, flippers and scales — at least for a few hours.

In partnership with Hawaii Mermaid Adventures, whose mission is to empower humans to explore the marine world and gain a deeper connection to the ocean, the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa is offering guests of all ages the chance to become a mermaid.

Aspiring mythical sea creatures can sign up for the 90-minute group activity, which includes a conservation talk, tail to wear, games, stories and a group swim lesson. Available on Thursdays in the resort’s pool, the activity costs $129 per person. GoPro images and pictures sent privately to each participant are an optional take-home souvenir.

“We are always looking to add unique and exciting offerings that we believe will enhance the guest experience; Hawaii Mermaid Adventures is a great partner and we look forward to having our guests take lessons with their passionate instructors,” said Fred Findlen, general manager, Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa. “We take pride in ensuring that our guests have the best time possible while at the resort and that they make memories to last a lifetime.”

The Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa is situated on 40 tropical-landscaped oceanfront acres along three miles of the island’s Ka’anapali Beach. Its 806 guestrooms, including 31 suites, have plantation-style furnishings, private lanais with views, Maui’s only oceanfront, a 15,000-square-foot luxury spa and fitness center, water playground with tropical streams and waterfalls, championship golf, tennis, SCUBA and water sports, restaurants and lounges, shopping, stargazing, luaus and wildlife tours.

Of course since it can be a tad tricky to stay afloat while donning that pesky tail, safety is the first priority of this adventure. All lessons start with safety briefings and swimming techniques taught by CPR/lifeguard-certified instructors before anyone even gets wet. Hawaii Mermaid Adventures developed specific protocols to make certain it’s nothing short of mer-mazing.
