Philadelphia is a magical place during the holiday season — with plenty of festivities around the city, your family is bound to get into the holiday spirit. Typically, Philly offers plenty of holiday events, and one standout travelers can still enjoy amid pandemic restrictions is Winter on Broad Street.

Feel the glow of holidays as you step into an illuminated escape, Winter on Broad Street: A Holiday Light Spectacular! Located right outside Wells Fargo Center, guests celebrate the magic of the holidays by wandering through 193 larger-than-life light sculptures and displays. Enjoy seasonal surprises along the path as the twinkling wonderland comes to life.

The outdoor experience is more than 160,000 square feet of holiday spirit — with plenty of room for social distancing. To make the most out of your time and to see everything you want, check out the event map.

To add to the holiday activities, satisfy your seasonal cravings and enjoy your favorite holiday-inspired treats and dining options throughout the event space. Looking for a little something extra to warm up? Parents and adult children can enjoy spiked ciders and cocoas, mulled wine and festively inspired cocktails.

Once you’ve walked through wonderland, explore Mistletoe Marketplace. Complete your holiday shopping at this wintertime artisan village. Shop from a variety of vendors offering unique gifts and festive goods, such as hand-crafted ornaments, winter clothing, custom artwork and décor.

After a little shopping, stop by Gritty’s Seasons Greetings. Snap pictures of the beloved Philadelphia Flyers mascot as he pops into his workshop. For all the Gritty super fans, make sure to book a timeslot to take a picture with Gritty Claus.

Other must-do attractions include curling, reindeer games, letters to Santa, ornament decorating and more.

Winter on Broad run Nov. 27–Jan. 3, 2021; if you are interested in attending, make sure to purchase your tickets and book your timeslot online.

Some of Europe’s Best Day Cruises

A week cruising along the Danube or the Rhine may be the stuff of dreams for many, but family travelers can enjoy views from the water in ways kinder to the family budget. Many riverside cities offer scenic cruises, and some Baltic or Mediterranean ports have daytrips to nearby islands or coastal attractions. In several cities you can cruise the canals, and in Switzerland you can spend a day cruising on Lake Geneva, with sightseeing stops in lakeside towns.
