Travel Tips

Nothing brings the holiday spirit quite like twinkling lights down a charming main street. Head to Virginia to these decorated streets for window shopping and warm holiday light displays.

King Street in Alexandria

Feel like you are walking through a Dickens Village in Alexandria. The cobblestone streets are lined with lights as you stroll through the shops. The European flair of King Street transports visitors to a fairytale-like atmosphere. Enjoy baked goods and find the perfect gift in one of the many boutique shops.

Beverly Street in Staunton

Take a peek at the shop windows decorated with festive vignettes in Staunton. The two-mile Festival of Lights at Gypsy Hill can be viewed by car or by foot. At the historic Blackburn Inn, enjoy the Avenue of Evergreens light display. The picturesque town is decorated with light posts like Norman Rockwell artwork.

Caroline Street in Fredericksburg

Experience the holiday magic through 40 blocks in historic Fredericksburg. The 18th- and 19th– century buildings come to life with decorations adorning the streets, storefront windows and light poles.

Market Street in Roanoke

The first three weeks of December, on Market Street in Roanoke, bring a swoosh of holiday spirit. Carolers in Dickens-esque garb sing throughout the streets, chestnuts roast on an open fire and streets are filled with red and green decorations.

The Downtown Mall in Charlottesville

Bundle up and walk through The Downtown Mall in Charlottesville. This pedestrian shopping center is full of lights, garland and tons of seasonal décor. Stop by one of the restaurants for a seasonal meal or a warm cup of hot cocoa.
